Update time again. We spend time thinking of many of our friends and family only to be distracted before having an opportunity to actually contact them. This time of year seems to be even busier than the rest of the year. We actually appreciate the time we take to write this letter for several reasons. First we get to take time to reflect on the events of our year. Secondly, we get to touch base with so many special people that we think of so often through out the year.
Kelly started this year working hard with the start up company he was working for. Many of the employees had said they would give it a year (which was the end of December) as many of them left they were not replaced, adding to Kelly’s responsibilities. In February our Jennavieve turned one. It was so hard to believe. Not only did the year go so quickly, but we were celebrating the first birthday of a little one we were told would never be. We made a quick trip to our favorite get away spot in Zion Utah as we knew it would be a while before we would have a chance to do so again. At the end of the month Kari was put on “one year old bed rest.” Bed rest as much as possible when you have a one year old, as our Dr. put it.

March began with Kari being monitored by a home health program. On March 20 our son, Jacob Robert York, arrived via c-section. Like Jenna, he was 5 weeks early. He was much bigger at birth than his sister. He had some fluid in his lungs, was covered with a rash, and tended to throw up often. He and Mom stayed in the hospital for 5 days. Mom almost stayed longer than Jake due to problems with blood pressure. Shortly after coming home, Kari’s Mom came to help out for a week. That was such a relief.
The end of April our whole family participated in the March of Dimes walk. We all went to San Diego for a few days in May. Jenna LOVED the water and the beach!! In June Jacob was baptized.
Kari’s Uncle John stayed with us for a couple of weeks. Kelly started a new job. It proved to be a challenge to fit in after being at his last group for 11 years. The end of June we took our annual trek to Utah for some plays. We skipped camping this year. (We learned our lesson last year with one baby.)In July Kari turned a very tired 40 years old. It was a hot summer. Kari and the kids didn’t venture too far from home, but that didn’t stunt their desire for adventure.
In September Kelly turned the big 40. Cousin Lisa and her daughter Morgan came for a short visit. Jenna loved having a bigger kid to play with.
By October Kelly began to have more and more going on at work with more long days and late nights. Jacob was becoming such a big boy. It was like we blinked and our little baby was gone. Jenna was a cute bear for Halloween, trailing behind the big kids.
November brought the flu. The kids were so sick that Jenna ended up in the Emergency room. We stayed home for Thanksgiving. Kari was thankful that Kelly had four days off of work. After it was all over Jenna and Jacob were somewhere between 2-4 lbs. difference in weight. Uncle John came to stay for another 2 weeks. He ran the marathon while he was here. Jenna was devastated when he left. Jake is crawling after Jenna. It looks like next year is going to have a running start.

Happy Holidays,
Kelly, Kari, Jenna, & Jake
